After weeks of traveling– destinations included Miami (lots of sleeping, walking, shopping, and cocktails), Punta del Este (staying awake until sunrise, zip lining down the side of a mountain, swimming in the ocean), Buenos Aires (the best red wine and red meat I’ve ever had in a gorgeous, full-of-character city), and San Paolo (not immediately charming but won me after with its lovely art museum and outdoor craft market)– I am SO happy to be back in Boston. I love traveling, but after two weeks of scraping by on my mediocre Spanish and non-existent Portogeuse, I was craving the comforts of home. Fortunately, I did have a little hand stitching project to keep me company.
It definitely took lots of long airplane flights to stitch all of those fabric buttons in place (and I actually started over the Christmas holiday). It was my mom’s inspired idea to stitch through the buttons with embroidery thread, and free-motion quilt around the inside circumference of each.
These little touches really complete the button effect.
Sometimes it takes me a little while to get back into the sewing studio groove after a prolonged absence, but this time I couldn’t get back in there fast enough. I seem to be in hibernation mode, and I’m very happy to cuddle up inside now that I’m back in my wonderful, chilly Boston.
My fondness for this city has only been augmented by the fact that Kyle and I just purchased our first condo! Right on Newbury St., in the heart of the city… in a nutshell, my dream home. I’ve already begun to mentally layout my new studio, which will be in the upstairs loft. Sigh. I have a good feeling about 2012.
