I’m definitely into that hibernation mode. This isn’t particularly unusual for me, especially at this time of year. My indoorsy impulses don’t strike with winter’s arrival– it takes a couple months of cold weather before I’m happily home-bound. Discovering Downton Abbey (it’s amazing– and yes I know, I’m really late on this one) has also helped. All of this translates to… a whole lot of hand stitching.
I’ve always been drawn to the imagery of bookshelf quilts, but I wanted to abstract the design to focus solely on the shapes. And instead of the usual patchwork, I opted for applique.
Good thing I had the whole first two seasons of Downton to get through, because this certainly took some time… but like I said, I’m just in that hand stitching kind of mood. I used my usual beloved Kona cotton fabrics for the quilt top, and my new favorite batting: 100% wool blend by Pellon. I usually use cotton, but this has the most fabulous softness and drape to it. Officially converted.
I’ll admit I find it a tad annoying when bloggers are super vague or coy about what they’re up to– yet I often find myself guilty of that very thing. Well, here it goes again. Some exciting and unusual opportunities have recently arisen. Looks like 2013 might be the year of the unexpected for me. So I’ll keep you posted as and if these possibilities come to fruition.
That being said, don’t expect that much too change. There will always be a whole lot of quilts.

This is fabulous!!! Handwork is so cozy in the winter:-) Can’t wait to hear what super good stuff is on the horizon!!!
