Truth be told, I’m not a big numbers person. I prefer a vaguer, more literary approach to life. And yet… turns out numbers make for a beautiful quilt motif.
I started this little baby quilt a few days ago, inspired by a photo that I stumbled across on Pinterest but can’t get my hands on at the moment. I hand drew the applique pieces, resulting in a sort of ‘sketchy’ appearance that I rather like.

I was pretty sure it would take me an eternity to get through all that hand applique, but it only took a couple super-rainy days during which I wasn’t tempted to do much else besides leave the house for Sunday brunch. Sometimes I’m really in the mood for hand applique, sometimes not so much– and whenever I try to pinpoint the cause, I end up coming back to the weather. I’d like to think I’m not so easily influenced, but something about sunless days are perfect for cuddling up with needle and thread in hand.

I outline quilted within each of the numbers, then stippled in the background to add a combination of definition and texture. Matching thread colors, of course.
If I’ve never been a big fan of the one-two-threes, I do love my ABCs. A reading quilt might be next.

I like numbers and I like math, but I LOVE your quilt. For someone who isn’t a numbers gal, you did a great job on this one.
LOVE this quilt. A pattern would be great!
Oh, please DO create an alphabet quilt! I love this numbers one, but I love my ABC’s!
Love your work! I used to quilt; now I crochet and make cards, scrapbook pages and paper gifties! Thanks for sharing your work with us!
